NTU offers up to 50% PG scholarship for study abroad.

Key update

Nottingham Trent University has announced merit-based scholarships for January 2026 postgraduate entrants, including discounts of up to 50% on tuition for eligible international students pursuing study abroad pathways.

The offer targets Indian and other international applicants and is positioned to ease costs amid shifting student visa dynamics in the UK.

Scholarship details

NTU’s portfolio includes up to 50% tuition-fee reductions for high-achieving candidates, applied as fee discounts upon enrolment.

Named awards highlighted for the January 2026 intake include the India Prestigious University Award (up to £4,000), the NTU International Merit Scholarship (£3,000), and the NTU International Scholarship (£2,000).

Complementing these, NTU Excellence Scholarships offer 50% or 25% off the first-year tuition fee for select outstanding applicants.

Application timeline

Scholarship applications for the January 2026 intake close on November 12, with applicants expected to check specific cut-off times.

Candidates generally need to hold an offer to study at NTU before submitting for institutional scholarships.

Why it matters

The UK granted 431,725 sponsored study visas in the year ending June 2025, 18% fewer than the previous year, underscoring a more competitive and cost-sensitive market for overseas education.

Indian students remained a leading cohort with 98,014 study visas in that period, nearly matching China’s 99,919, highlighting continued demand despite headwinds.

Visa context

UK policy changes from January 2024 restricted most taught master’s students from bringing dependants, contributing to an 85% annual drop to 21,978 dependant visas in 2024.

Even so, Home Office data note an 18% rise in total study visas in the first six months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, suggesting some recovery in demand.

Program demand

Home Office analysis shows UK-sponsored study visas have been mainly driven by master’s programs, accounting for over 60% of study visas across the last five years.

In the year ending March 2025, 81% of Indian students came for a master’s, underscoring how postgraduate scholarships can meaningfully influence destination choices.

What to watch

Prospective applicants should align scholarship timelines with program offers and consider how visa factors, including dependent restrictions, affect personal plans.

With India and China jointly comprising nearly half of the main study visas, competitive funding like NTU’s could sway mobility patterns in 2026 intakes.
