Scholarships for Indian students in Singapore

Singapore's universities offer research scholarships to PhD students, and the government subsidises tuition for selected undergraduate courses and postgraduate research courses. Three routes worth knowing:

NTU Research Scholarship

For full-time PhD and research master's students at NTU, local or international. It covers the annual tuition fee plus a monthly stipend of S$3,000 for international PhD students and S$2,900 for research master's students (rates from January 2026), with up to S$500 more a month after the PhD qualifying exam. Up to 4 years for a PhD, and no bond.

MOE Tuition Grant

For selected full-time undergraduate and diploma courses at Singapore's autonomous universities, polytechnics and arts institutions. You pay a subsidised tuition fee. In return, international students work full-time for a Singapore entity for 3 years after graduating (the bond).

MOE Service Obligation Scheme

For international students on selected postgraduate research courses at NTU, NUS and SMU. It helps with the course costs, and you serve a 3-year bond with a Singapore entity after graduating.

Things to know before you apply

The Tuition Grant is not free money

If you take it, you sign a 3-year work bond. Withdraw from the course or buy out the bond, and you pay back the grant you received plus 10% interest a year.

Research scholarships come with the admission

At NTU, you ask to be considered for the scholarship in your application for admission, and the result arrives with the offer. So the application itself has to be strong.

Few full scholarships exist for taught master's degrees

The Tuition Grant covers diploma and undergraduate courses, and the Service Obligation Scheme covers postgraduate research. For a taught master's, look at department awards and education loans.
