GREAT Scholarships for Indians

The British Council offers this scholarship to students who are citizens of India. There are also certain requirements to be eligible for this scholarship. They are as follows:

Hornby Trust Scholarship

In 1961 an educational trust called ‘A.S Hornby Educational Trust’ was established by A.S Hornby. A.S Hornby started this scholarship to support the English language teachers and create awareness about it. This scholarship can be availed by senior teachers, trainers, supervisors and writers. 

The students can study with this scholarship at the University of Warwick which is a public university in Coventry, England. It is ranked as the 144 Best Global Universities. This University was established in 1965 and has three faculties namely: arts, science, engineering and medicine. The students can stay as residents in the student housing and it is available for the postgraduate students as well.

  • The student should be a citizen of his country
  • A full-time teaching or training requirements for five years and a university degree
  • The student must have a minimum of 6.5 GPA for the English language examinations

This scholarship is for students who want to pursue a masters degree in Scotland, United Kingdom. The ‘Scotland Saltire Scholarship’ programme is funded by the Government of Scotland. They provide these scholarships to students who are citizens of Canada, China, India, Pakistan, Japan and the U.S.A. This scholarship is valid for students who want to pursue their post-graduate degrees in the United Kingdom. There are also other commonwealth scholarships such as for PhD, masters, medical fellowships, professional fellowships and others.

This scholarship covers your tuition fee, examination fee, airfare fee to come to the United Kingdom and a return ticket to your home country after this scholarship is over. You will also get a stipend of £1,116 – £1,369 if your university is located in the London metropolitan area.

The eligibility for a master degree programme is that

This scholarship is only eligible for students of the United States. This scholarship applies to any field of study in the U.K. Upto fifty scholarships are awarded annually.

Two years Marshall Scholarship

This is applicable for two years (22 months) which can be extended but not beyond the end of the third academic year.

  • For students pursuing a doctorate in Oxford are eligible for a three-year scholarship
  • And the University of Cambridge is eligible for a three-year scholarship

One year Marshall Scholarship

This scholarship is only for 12 months and cannot be extended.

Young Cell Scheme (Kosovo)

Charles Wallace India Trust Scholarships

This is for the Indians who are in their mid-careers to spend time in the UK to achieve their artistic, academic and professional ambitions. This scholarship was established in 1981. This scholarship is for ten months at a university in the UK which can be a one-year postgraduate course. This scholarship covers your accommodation and living costs in the UK. They also provide £600 for international travel costs.

  • Should be a citizen of India and living in India

  • Have not received this grant within the last five years

Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Programme :

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships for students from developing countries who have less access to finance. These scholarships are awarded as 50% grants and the other 50% as a loan. In this scholarship, priority is given to the students who want to pursue their postgraduate and doctoral studies.

Eligibility and Requirements

For doctoral studies, this scholarship can be availed for a total of three years.

Newton Fund PhD scholarships

They offer PhD scholarships for students to study in the UK.  They accept students from outside the UK who plan to come to the UK to get PhD grants.
