PTE Exam Fee in India: What You Pay at Checkout, and Why It Is Hard to Verify

The PTE Academic fee in India is ₹18,900, and that is the amount you pay at Pearson’s checkout. No tax is added on top of it. Nothing is subtracted from it either — there is no separate base price that a percentage gets applied to.

That sounds like a small thing to open with. It is not, because a large share of the pages ranking for this question show you a base fee, add 18% GST to it, and arrive at a total. That arithmetic is internally tidy and describes a billing model Pearson does not use in India. If you have been trying to reconcile two different numbers, this is why.

What does the PTE exam cost in India?

One figure covers all three formats:

Confirmed by our Pearson relationship manager, as of 16 March 2026, and re-confirmed on 26 August 2026 when we went back specifically to ask about the tax question. It can change; Pearson does not have to announce it, and the section further down explains who checks it here and how often.

The UKVI variant being the same price is worth noticing if you are applying to the UK. On IELTS, the UKVI version costs more than the standard test. On PTE it does not, so choosing the visa-approved format costs you nothing extra — only the availability of test centres and dates differs.

Why is there no GST line on your receipt?

Because Pearson does not collect GST separately on this transaction in India. The ₹18,900 is inclusive, and the checkout page shows that one number.

This matters more than a formatting detail, because it invalidates the most common way this fee is presented elsewhere. Take any published “base fee”, add 18%, and you can land within a few hundred rupees of the right answer while describing something that does not happen. We published a version of that mistake ourselves — an older page here carried a base figure and a GST calculation, and rather than patch the numbers we removed the sentence, because the sentence was wrong in kind and not by amount.

If you are comparing pages and one of them breaks the fee into base plus tax, that is a reliable sign it has not been checked against a real checkout recently.

Why can you not find this fee on Pearson’s own website?

You can find it at checkout, once you have selected a test centre and a date. You will have difficulty finding it published as a plain number on a fees page, because Pearson does not maintain a citable India price page in the way ETS and IDP do.

We would rather say that than imply a source we do not have. Every fee figure on this page traces to a named person at Pearson, relayed through our own team, on a date we have written down. It is not scraped from a public price list, because no such list exists for this market.

The practical consequence for you: treat any PTE India fee you read anywhere — including here — as a figure to confirm at checkout before you budget around it. That is not a disclaimer we are adding for safety. It is the actual epistemic position, and a page that hides it is telling you less than it knows.

Is PTE cheaper than IELTS or TOEFL in India?

Marginally, and not by enough to decide anything on its own:

The spread between the cheapest and the most expensive of these is about ₹1,250, or roughly 7%. Retaking one of them once costs more than the entire difference. So the fee is the wrong variable to optimise: pick the test your universities accept and that suits how you actually perform, and treat the price as a rounding error against the cost of a retake. What else might you pay beyond the exam fee?

Pearson charges separately for some things, and we are deliberately not putting numbers against them:

• Rescheduling, where a charge applies on a sliding scale depending on how close to the test date you move it
• Cancelling, where a refund is partial and shrinks as the date approaches
• Additional score reports beyond the free sends included with your result

Those policies exist and you should read them before you book. We have no sourced rupee figure for any of them, and the rule we hold ourselves to on this site is that a fee figure carries a source, a date and a named person responsible for refreshing it, or it does not get published. Inventing a plausible reschedule fee is exactly how the base-plus-GST error spreads — a number that looks specific and traces to nothing.

Check the current policy on Pearson’s own PTE site when you book, and read the terms shown at checkout rather than a third-party summary of them.

How do you pay less than ₹18,900?

Two routes exist, and they are not the same thing:

The code is a flat 10% applied instantly at Pearson’s own checkout, it works on all three formats, and there is nothing to claim back afterwards. The voucher is a prepaid instrument bought from us, so it saves more but adds a step. Both are India-only. One practical warning that costs people money: the code is case-sensitive, and retyping it is the usual reason it fails. Copy it.

When does this number change, and who checks it?

Pearson last revised the India fee to ₹18,900 on 16 March 2026. There is no published schedule, and no announcement you can subscribe to.

On our side the figure has a named owner rather than a review date nobody holds: Saahil maintains it through our Pearson relationship manager, which is how the tax question above got a definitive answer in August rather than an educated guess. When the fee moves, it moves here, on the voucher page, and in the schema those pages emit, in the same change.

We are describing our own process because it is the only assurance we can honestly offer on a number that has no public source. You should still see ₹18,900 at checkout. If you see something else, the checkout is right and this page is stale — and we would rather you knew which way that asymmetry runs.

What should you do before booking?

Confirm your universities accept PTE for your intake and, if you are applying for a UK visa, that they want the UKVI variant specifically. Decide your test date early, because centre availability in the major Indian cities moves faster than the price does. Apply the discount code or buy the voucher before you pay rather than after, since neither is refundable retrospectively. Then read the reschedule terms once, properly, on the assumption you might need them.
